Iconographer · Artist · Art Historian
The most inspiring part of our work is when we develop a church interior, turning it into a true place for prayer. It’s so joyful to see how contemporary forms grow from tradition and how one can achieve a perfect balance between decisiveness and delicacy. It’s amazing how artistic labour and most affordable means transform an earthly room into a sacred space with noble simplicity and solemnity if applied in the right way.
No doubt, it’s also one of the most demanding tasks because we need to take into consideration so many aspects. However, when everything comes together, architecture begins to resonate with iconography and everything else, opening our eyes and bodies for worship.
My Approach to Iconography
Over the years as an iconographer, I have taken part in numerous exhibitions and conferences, and led workshops and lectures (see CV).
The work of an iconographer draws on many disciplines — artistic and theological alike. Working thoughtfully, seeking answers to the questions that arise along the way, one begins to grasp the depth of the tradition and the vast range of possibilities this profession opens up.
Reflecting on some of these professional questions felt worth sharing — that is how many of my articles came about, each usually prompted by a pressing question at the time. Links to these articles are available on our site under Our Writings.
